No one wants to get older, but it’s a fact of life, folks! There’s no “growing old” gracefully, either. No magic clock is going to wind back and make you feel like a teenager again.

But there is good news, and I’m here to give it to you. You don’t have to just accept the aging of your brain and all the negative things that come with it. Take these two proven steps to keep your mind on the younger side.

Add omega-3 fatty acids to your diet

Researchers from the University of California at Irvine have found that the omega-3 fatty acid DHA might slow the growth of two lesions on the brain that are known indicators of Alzheimer’s disease (https://news.uci.edu/2007/04/17/omega-3-fatty-acid-may-help-prevent-alzheimers-brain-lesions/). In the study, researchers fed a control group of genetically modified mice the equivalent of the modern American diet with a 10:1 ratio of omega-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids. Three test groups received a 1:1 ratio, with one group receiving supplemental DHA alone and the two other groups getting DHA along with other omega-6 fatty acids.

At the end of three months, all three groups of mice had lower levels of the two proteins that cause the hallmark lesions, but at the nine-month mark, the mice on the DHA diet were the only ones with lower protein levels. This suggests that DHA is better taken alone than paired with omega-6 fatty acids.

You’ve probably already heard that activities that stimulate your mind can reduce your Alzheimer’s risk, but there’s actual proof this is true.

Researchers from the Chicago-based Rush Memory and Aging Project (https://www.judsonsmartliving.org/blog/lifelong-learning-as-we-age-benefits-both-mind-and-body/) conducted a study involving more than 1,200 seniors, and they found that a boost in cognitive activity by older adults left them 2.6 times less likely than their less cognitively-active counterparts to develop dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Stimulating activities include things as simple as reading the newspaper or a book, playing chess and going to the theater. Even when researchers controlled for current physical and social activity levels, socioeconomic status and past cognitive activity, the benefits older adults receiving just by using their minds held strong.

You don’t have to love the idea of getting older to help keep your mind sharp; simply acknowledging that it will happen and taking the steps needed to protect your brain is enough.

Younger looking skin is something that many choose to achieve. When you look at all of the skin care products claiming to make you look younger and have that ultimate glow. Just how do you achieve it? Is it even possible to have younger, more vibrant looking skin? The answer is a resounding… yes! Younger looking skin is not difficult to achieve with some great science and a little discipline. The one thing to know is that our skin is the largest organ of our body. On my radio show, I talk about how our daily habits influence our skin as much as it influences our heart, lungs, or kidneys. 1.Sleep 6-8 Hours 
Looking for the magic potion to get rid of the wrinkles? Sleep. This is a major key to longevity in your skin. It must be quality sleep. Getting into the deep stage of sleep is proven to help rejuvenate the skin and keep your skin glowing. 

2.Drink Green Tea 
It’s so easy to do. Green tea has so many powerful antioxidants to help keep your skin glowing and protected. Try the green tea test. Take a picture of your skin, then drink fresh unsweetened green tea every day for 30 days. Take another picture and see what you notice

3.Drink Your Water 
Pure, non-chlorinated water is an essential for naturally glowing skin. Most people are dehydrated and don’t even know it. The typical goal is half your bodyweight in ounces per day.

4.Eat High Omega Fatty Fish 
Your best bet is to eat wild caught fish daily. The better fish are salmon, tuna, and mackerel. The rest of the fish are typically good, however, these contain the higher levels of the good fats for empowering your health

5.Get Your Vegetables 
This seems to be a struggle for many. Statistics tell us that only about 1.5% of Americans eat fruits and vegetables. For optimal health we need between 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day! That’s a lot!

Can we really turn back the clock? After watching medical science for over two decades now I am certain about many facts. One is that we are aging much slower than our parents did. Today, just look at someone that got into fitness in their twenties, when it just became popular around 1985. Now that person is in their fifties. How do they look? How is their energy? Amazing right? Do you think they will retire at 65? No way. There is a way to turn back the clock if you understand some basic principles about our health. Lets look at what it takes to make 70 the new 40. I am convinced that 70 can be the new 40 if we follow some basic principles that we have learned throughout medical science. 

1.You Are What You Eat
Your body is a direct reflection of what you put inside it. If you do the basics, actually eat 9 servings of greens per day, 1-2 pieces of fruit, ample protein, eat healthy fats, and limit processed foods, you will win for empowering your health

2.Drink Tons Of Water
You must do this to win. The old adage is ½ your bodyweight in ounces. We are beginning to think now that is closer to your entire weight in ounces of water. Drink up. 

3.Exercise
Like I say on my radio show, you must move every day. The old walk 3 day per week will not work. I’m so serious. You have to get moving at least 20 minutes of relative activity each day. Push yourself. 

4.Get Your Head Right
This is what makes people more sick and age faster than anything. You have to have a great mental game. You must forgive, forget, love unconditionally, and move on toward your goals. Do this, and you will master the aging process. 

5.Sleep
The older I get at this, the more I realize how important recovering the body is. Research still says 7-9 hours of sleep. However I spoke to many researchers in my network on sleep that have said that if it’s high quality sleep, then we can make it with 6-7 hours. Regardless, the body must recover for you to slow the aging process. 

These are some of the basics. I have more of these principles and teaching in my Health University system. Follow these principles consistently and make your 70 your new 40.

Growing Younger. Sounds great doesn’t it? It’s the idea that many are searching for. How can we turn back the hands of time? Can we actually do it? The Fountain of Youth was a concept that we read about in early writings. It seems that losing your youth and aging was many times associated with something negative. We know now how important the omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids are to our overall health. Not only for heart, brain, immune, and hormone health, but also for our appearance, performance, and overall skin health. We often think fish to get these healthy fats, and salmon is the king. However, these fats can be found abundantly in walnuts, flaxseed,  and even squash if you are vegan. Regardless, make sure to know your levels by having an omega fatty acid blood test to know your exact numbers. It is vital for turning back the clock.

3. Keep The Adrenals Healthy 
You can start by drinking green tea. My personal favorite. Nothing keeps the skin radiant and glowing like green tea. Its great for specifically losing targeted belly fat and lowers the stress hormone called cortisol. Green tea along with additional herbals can help keep the adrenals healthy which will keep you looking and feeling younger. 

4.Keep Up The Protein

They are also huge proponents at helping fight against high cholesterol and heart disease for empowering your health

Researchers looked in the study and found that if you eat 1 serving of nuts per week, your risk of dying decreases by 11 percent. If you eat 2-4 servings per week it will go to 13 percent. And if you eat a serving 7 days per week you will have the full 20 percent reduced chance of dying. Simply amazing. 

The question always is just how much is a serving. I always say don’t overthink it. Usually it’s about 20 pieces. So 20 almonds or 20 walnuts. 

Get it? 

A handful of nuts a day may just be better than the apple to keep the doctor away.

When it comes to building and maintaining healthy lean muscle there are many factors that can help this process. In the healthcare world, people tend to be searching for anything that can help reverse the aging process. Maintaining great lean muscle is a key for the way our body both looks and performs. We all want to look and feel our best. Right? So is it just eating fruits and vegetables and some protein and hoping for the best? If you are serious about optimizing your daily performance, then you should consider some of this new research that is out. Let’s talk about an amino acid that is changing how we look at the aging process. Our cells are made of the building blocks of protein. We know these are called amino acids. In particular, there is an amino acid that is considered “essential”, and we must get it from the foods that we eat. In the aging process we have to look at a couple of questions that are important for empowering your health

1.How much lean muscle do you have? 
2.How rapidly are you losing it? 

When asked, these are the two primary questions. After the age of about 35 we begin to lose about 1% of our muscle mass per year. This is why typically someone that is 70 seems to be more frail than someone who is 35. The amino acid that we know can help combat this issue of muscle breakdown is called L-Leucine. Leucine has been known about for some time. The key is that it stimulates what is called protein synthesis. This is what causes our bodies to use the nutrition that we take in and make more muscle. The key is that it also prevents muscle breakdown. The ability to slow down how much muscle we have over time is essential in us prolonging the aging process. 

Listen, the amazing fact about Leucine is how it can cause us to lose so much bodyfat. In some recent studies we learned how with lower calorie restriction, the Leucine caused a preservation of lean muscle by up to 25%! That is amazing to what it can do to support a healthy body. Leucine is in combination with two other branched chain amino acids Valine and Isoleucine. Studies have shown that they are better when taken all together.

So where do we get Leucine? We get it from our foods. We primarily get it from whey protein. For every 25 grams of whey protein, you will take in around 2.5 grams of Leucine. And from most protein sources you may get about 1 gram from a chicken breast, or eggs. However, studies showed us that we need about 8-10 grams of Leucine to see the anti-aging results. Therefore it is better to take all 3 together in a supplement form. One that I use everyday is our CrossBody Natural Amino.
